Wisdom of the old sea wolf
If you ask the old sea wolf ( for example Simon :) ) what is the most important feature of successful expedition, he would tell you, that this is efficiency.
To use as minimal energy and time for job as you can, which means that we have more time for rowing or resting.
When I was followed past Atlantic corssings, I often come accross to teams which had problems with elecricity. After few days there were problems with electricity and they began to run low power for started desalination equipment, for powering MP3 players and other electronics on boat.
As feature engineer of electrotechnics, I found this a bit strange and inconceivable.
When I was bought a bout, a bout was with no electrical wiring, which has given me an opportunity to do this my way.
I was lucky, because my faculty of Electrotehnic in Ljubljana was helped me out and bought main electrical engineer equipment, with work and other material they helped us in Electro Stumpfl. We drove the boat in their premises in Slovenj Gardec and after three days the boat battery was allready filling via solar cells.
Fortunately, I can tell you, that Electro Stumfl was chosen special equipment and wiring, so that we can use our power extremly ineffective!
We have 220Ah big AMG battery, which also serves as a ballast,and we fill it with 240W solar cells. That means, that we don't have to worry about how we use energy, what we fill or how many water do we make and life is much better, because we have one problem less.
Somethimes we make joke, that we have so much electricity, that we could have a small electricmotor! :)
